Born in Glossop, Derbyshire, England, Wilman attended Repton School, where he formed a lifelong friendship with future collaborator Jeremy Clarkson (as well as notable Formula One designer Adrian Newey). Before transitioning into television, Wilman built a career in motoring journalism, writing for publications like *Auto Express* and *Top Gear Magazine*. Wilman's television career took off when he teamed up with Clarkson to co-create the modern, revamped format of BBC's ***Top Gear*** in 2002. His work on the program earned him multiple BAFTA nominations and turned the series into a global phenomenon. Following their departure from the BBC in 2015, Wilman, Clarkson, Hammond, May, and producer Andy Wilman founded the production company W. Chump & Sons. Through this venture, Wilman partnered with Amazon Studios to create ***The Grand Tour***, which premiered in 2016. He has also served as an executive producer on the hit documentary series ***Clarkson's Farm***.
